Fear…Sometimes it shows up LOUD in the form of panic, anxiety, or sleepless nights. Then there are the times it subtle and it’s quiet, hiding behind perfectionism, procrastination, or the need to control anything and everything. Regardless of how FEAR tends to show up, it is the great master of creating limitation. It cages the dreams in your heart as well as it delays your destiny.
But here’s the thing: maybe it’s time to break up with fear. Yes! You heard me right. Fear isn’t always a sign that you’re failing. As hard as it may sound sometimes, fear may actually be proof that you’re moving in the right direction.
There can be this uneasiness you feel when you’re stepping out to walk out the vision God has given you. That trembling before a big YES! The second-guessing when you’re about to share your voice or take that small or huge leap of faith? Consider it fear’s last attempt to make you sit down when God’s already called you to STAND UP. It’s time to say, “It’s not you, fear. It’s me. I’m choosing courage.”
2 Tinothy 1: 7 says, “For God gave has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control.” It’s a reminder that fear can’t stop you.
Fear doesn’t vanish because we believe that we are deeply spiritual. Fear disappears when we quote scriptures and speak life over our situation. It allows us to walk boldly towards the truth of who we are. It tells fear that it has no choice but to take a back seat when courage is present. When you choose courage you walk in obedience in spite of fear and you cut off its source.
Joshua 1:9 should be a scripture to bring hope, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
So, today if are you feeling underqualified? Overwhelmed? Insecure? Remember: fear has no power over you unless you give in to it. The moment you stop entertaining its lies is the moment you start reclaiming your ground and your God-given authority that walks you right into your destiny.
So today, take a moment to ask yourself:
What has fear talked you out of that God has already equipped you for?
And more importantly, what would it look like to choose faith anyway?
Let that question linger. In the meantime tell FEAR I am breaking up with you. It’s not you, its me. Then let fear know TODAY I am choosing courage.
And when you’re ready to go deeper, there’s a 5-day Bible plan titled “Hello Fear, I’m Here to Conquer You” for you to grasp ahold of the truth. If there is any doubt, please know that it is written for moments just like this.
